Most of the young people I have dealt with can not come close to writing legibly and in addition can not spell. First noticed 30 years ago with kids from a very nice area and good schools. I shit you not and it hasn't changed. My last assistant did just fine though.
Ours, I think, was the first generation that didn't care much about learning the rules of English. Now we've raised another. The future, in this area, doesn't look bright.
