Quote Of The Day

From Vastleft at Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy:

Original article is here. Vastleft seldom lacks for pithy observations about the state of American political process, but I like this one particularly. It really describes the trouble with American progressivism these days.

I was recently reading an article that pointed out how far same sex marriage has come in how short of a time. A book published 16 years ago proposed same sex marriage and the notion was denounced even by many GBLT folks. Just 16 years ago!

Nothing is politically impossible.

IMHO, two things enabled that change that aren't typically true of progressive causes these days:

1. The rich don't care that much about gay marriage. At least, it's not going to cost them anything, so they have no real reason to oppose it, and

2. The LGBT pressure groups kept up the pressure, because gays didn't accept half-measures.

I don't know what would have happened had 1. not been true, but without 2., gays would be wondering if maybe it could start happening 16 years from now.
