Some Updates

Since it's so easy to find news on sports, I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed on how two teams featured here at SnS are doing. First off, the Seattle Mariners, minus ace utility guy Tony Phillips, appear to be doing about as well as I expected:

On this night, the Mariners were a good enough team to fend off the Angels despite a two-error eighth inning that put Seattle (5-6) in jeopardy of losing a lead that [Mariners left fielder Raul] Ibanez and others helped build. His ninth career two-homer game included a mammoth shot that nearly cleared the right-field bleachers. Ibanez has a team-leading four home runs.

Mariners hope it's first of many

Apparently, the M's closer has already had too much work - he's on the disabled list.

Meanwhile, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs are off to an even less spectacular start:

Baseball is the buzz in Allentown. Friday night the Queen City christened Coca-Cola Park as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs took the field for their official home opener. The stadium was packed with fans, but the IronPigs fell to 0-9 on the season when the Richmond Braves beat them 6-0.

Let's see, what's the appropriate baseball phrase? Oh, yes, the season's still young.

I sure hope not. He, Lopez, and Beltre seem to be the only Mariners hitters who can find the ball this year.
