It will limit people's choices to, in many cases, to a government-run program like Medicaid which is essentially a health care gulag, because people will not have any choices but to take that poorly performing government plan.

He was talking about the Democrats' current health care plan. This might actually be true, although I think odds are that there won't be a real public option in the final bill. There certainly won't be one that's worth a damn. What is so stupid about this statement is that right now there are 45 million or more Americans in a health care gulag. They are the ones who can't get health insurance, and can't be covered by Medicare or Medicaid. They're the working poor, and in some cases the non-working poor as well.
Even those who have insurance often find themselves in that gulag - nearly as many Americans don't get the coverage they need from their health insurance. Most of these officially or practically uninsured people would probably be glad to be part of the Medicaid or Medicare gulags, because at least there you know that the insurer will play by a known set of rules, and much of what ails them would be covered.
That Cornyn either refuses to acknowledge these facts, or isn't aware of them, exemplifies just how out of touch many legislators in DC are from their constituents. Cornyn can get his health care from the federal insurance system, of course, for a low rate relative to what many folks pay. He's also eligible for that other dreadful gulag, Medicare. He's taken care of.
It makes you wonder if these guys have ever gotten to know anyone who had to worry about where their health care, let alone their next meal, was coming from.

And, they live among us. That's scary in and of itself.
As I often say, as a society we get the government we deserve. Certainly, Cornyn and his supporters are proof of this. Their votes for him are often at direct odds with their own well being.

I just do not get it how they can constantly vote against their own self-interests. It boggles tthe mind.
