Blogspot Is Broken Today

I'm going to start a new category of posts called "stupid web pages". Blogspot will figure prominently in them today. Let me start at the beginning.

For some reason, Blogger's preferred image server, Picasa is down at the moment. No word on why or how. If you try to click on one of the missing pictures, you're sent to a page that asks you to report the problem if it persists. Clicking on that link sends you to a page that has no links that allow you to report something. You can only click on various help topics. Does any of this sound smart so far?

My guess is that it will be hours before anyone responsible is even aware that there's a problem.

Needless to say, I have no idea how to fix this or report it, save by writing a post that, hopefully, someone from Blogspot will read. Meanwhile, sorry about the lack of images.

And to the "commenter" named "Jackpot", don't expect Blogspot's lack of helpfulness to be an impediment to getting rid of you for too much longer. If you continue to post spam comments here, I'll figure out a suitable way to deal with them beyond just deleting them. I'll probably start posting your IP addresses here, and any other helpful information.

UPDATE: It appears that Blogspot and Picasa are now working. I don't think this article had anything to do with it.

Ha! Jackpot had better watch out. Cujo's not as shy and retiring as he appears...

Well, I've been wondering what kind of blog to sign on with if I venture out as an "independent". Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad, what what what?
Not being a techie, it's a dilemma. I want something that's easy to figure out, looks good, and is easy for both the blog owner and commenters to use.

Blogspot/Blogger does have things to recommend it. It's very easy to use. I'm familiar with HTML, though, so take that with a grain of salt. It's also pretty uncluttered, which is something I like.

What I don't like is the complete disconnect with the folks who manage the site. I realize that's inevitable, given that there are hundreds of thousands of bloggers using this service, but it's still annoying at times. It's free, though, so I really can't complain.

Spam comments are pretty rare here. Somehow or another, they filter out most of them. I've been bothered multiple times occasionally, but this latest clown is the first one who really needed a specific warning.
