Twitter Message Of The Day

I have no idea what this argument was, or who this person is, but this is one of those things that has both bothered and amused me when I've been in conversations with people who like to use this word:

Twitter Message by "Left Action"

I don't even know if the person who wrote this is on the political left or not. I'd like to think so, but it makes no difference. Not being able to get an insult like that right is pretty sad.

I would laugh, but it sounds like something I'd write. I blame my third grade teacher and the left wing ideological teaching establishment in power at the time in rural Ohio: 1954.

Yes, but I'm pretty sure you would have used it in a sentence, so someone reading what you wrote wouldn't be wondering what the heck a "looser" was.

Or, for that matter, wondering why wanted things looser...

If tight is hot

Looser must be way cool

PS, flying w/o Preview ;-)

Yes, well as you can see from my last comment, I quite often fly that way. Sometimes, pronouns really are important.

Well coming over from Facebook, I see that it is now a part of a list: 10 things I learned on Facebook, No. 3 is: Lose and loose mean the same thing.

Sadly, this one is something we can't blame on Facebook. People have been having trouble with the spelling of these words for some time. That's largely because it just doesn't make any sense. How is "loser" pronounced "loozer"? So, I certainly understand the confusion. It's just one of those rules educated native English speakers have to master.

That doesn't change my amusement at folks who call others losers when those folks doing the name calling can't even spell the word, obviously.
