End Of Days Near In Des Moines

Those militant Des Moines atheists and their wild bus ad rampage appear to have been a boon to the parties involved. The Des Moines Register reports:

A controversy over whether an advertisement for an atheist group should be displayed on the side of public buses seems to have benefited both parties involved.

Membership in the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers has doubled from what it was before the ad campaign began. In addition, the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority's [(DART)] advertising department is seeing new groups interested in buying ads.

"I think we got more than we were looking for," said Lily Kryuchkov, board member with the Iowa Atheists and Freethinkers. As of Monday, the group has about 250 members.

The group's ads are back on 20 DART buses, where they will remain throughout August.

DART, Atheist Group Benefit From Ad Debate

The article quotes the DART ad sales representative as saying they're already booking more ads of this sort. DART's general manager allowed as how maybe their policy on advertising was a little outdated.

Iowa Governor Chet Culver's hysterical reaction to the ads suggests that's not the only thing that's outdated in Des Moines.

Who knew that the Apocalypse would be so profitable?

I didn't realize how bigoted Chet Culver is against atheists.

He's either quite a bigot or he's engaging in some pretty serious pandering. Last week, I didn't know who the governor of Iowa was, so I certainly can't speak to which of those two options is the right one.
