Kucinich insisted that he was given no assurance that Obama would push for a public option after the bill passes, and said that he was offered no favors in exchange for his support.

Explaining factors he had considered in making his decision, Mr. Kucinich said, “We have to be very careful that the potential of President Obama’s presidency not be destroyed by this debate.”

In contrast, Democratic conservatives didn't have a problem with getting what they wanted:

In the end, this collection of cowards and dumbasses sold us out so that their President wouldn't look so bad. Fuck them all, and the people on the other side of the aisle who made this excuse possible.

I hadn't actually seen that quote about not destroying the potention etc. before just now. Holy Shit. There will be no democratic majority in the house after the end of this year because of this legislation and the financial regulation that is [not] coming down the pike.
I was thinking that it was becoming just that a necessary piece of legislation for Obama and that is all. Of course, Obama got everything he wanted from the git go, that is why there was no push back against the blue dogs.
There seems to be a mindless repatition of certain slogans: Last best chance. Camel's nose under the tent flap. But there is no real examination of the actual bill and what was given away and why.
So a couple of years from now when I am selling my car to pay for some minor medical procedure that the cut rate insurance doesn't pay for I can say "I told you so." That and $17.95 will buy me a cup of coffee.
Yes. The Democrats have screwed up at every turn. Their majority in the House may not last past November (as soon as I get the ambition, I'll look at the numbers, but it's looking bad). The last chance they had was to deliver some useful health care reform that would go into effect soon. They haven't.
I won't be a bit sorry to see the worthless assholes go, either.
I'll be happy to tell people I told them so in a few years. All we have to do is figure out how to survive that long without medical care.
